Fort Myers Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)

facial plastic surgery photo gallery The eyebrows gradually sag with age and lose their arched shape to become flatter with time. As they sag, the skin below the eyebrows crowds down onto the upper eyelids. This increases the appearance of folds, fullness, and wrinkles in the upper eyelids. The outer part of the upper eyelid skin tends to be the area that droops the most creating a hooded appearance. The distance between the eyebrow and the upper eyelid is short. In brief, the orbit or upper eye area appears tired and less alert.

The Brow Lift Procedure

The brow lift (forehead lift) procedure re-suspends the eyebrow to a higher position with better shape producing a more youthful "wider eyed," alert and rested appearance. The procedure is more frequently performed as a minimal incision endoscopic technique through small 0.5 to 0.75 inch incisions hidden behind the hairline in the scalp.

Brow lift surgery is some times done through the upper blepharoplasty eyelid incision with fewer, more limited incisions in the scalp. In many cases, the muscles between the eyebrows are thinned out to reduce the frown lines and downward pull of the inner part of the eyebrows.

The procedure is done under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation and local anesthetic. After a brow/forehead lift, the scalp sutures or staples are removed in 10 to 12 days. A dressing is worn about the head for a week or so and sometimes at night time for a longer period. A soft rubber drain is usually placed at the time of surgery and removed in two to four days after. The swelling and bruising clears at the usual rate of the other facial procedures, about two to four weeks.
